Desalvo

HAILING FROM the darkest enclave in Glasgow, DESALVO deal in the kind of feral punk rock that takes no prisoners and blows away preconceptions. Signed to Rock Action (Mogwai, Envy), the quartet are about unleash a furious debut album in the form of Mood Poisoner. Drawing on influences such as the seminal noise of metalcore of Converge and the unusual time-signatures and song structuring of underground hardcore legends Botch and the brutal percussion of concept-metallers Mastodon, Mood Poisoner looks set to push the band above the parapet and build on their existing underground buzz, which has already seen them record a session for Vic Galloway’s show on BBC Radio One.
Live, their music is so combative that vocalist P6 performs in a Kevlar vest. With song titles like Tonguescraper, L & Li and Cock Swastika they’re clearly not looking for approval or acceptance, but could well find it thanks to such an uncompromising approach similar to the no holds barred mindset that has brought the likes of Gallows and Fucked Up critical acclaim in recent years.
Having previously played in other bands such as PH Family, Stretcheads and, most bizarrely, Scottish alt- rockers Idlewild, DESALVO make music that moves in a perpetual forward motion and exists purely in its own context. They’re not interested in conforming to a trend or finding a niche. Instead, they play music at it purest: loud, in your face and on a mission. For that reason, the band themselves have labelled it, simply, ‘proper music’.
This is music that’s conceived and designed to be a sensual, unsettling and unforgettable experience. DESALVO want to leave a mark - on your body or in your mind, it doesn’t matter which, so long as you are LISTENING to them. They don’t want to fight you, they want you to join their fight.
