'Relaxing with...'

“If that’s not a freakout, then I’m a dutchman’ John Peel after airing The Heads’ first Peel session
Finally, The Heads’ Rooster label is mightily proud to announce the reissue of their debut, Relaxing With… Originally released in 1996 and now re-mastered and boosted with extras. The album will be available on 2xCD as well as, for the very first time, digitally with the LP being released early next year.
Amidst a world suffocating in Britpop smarm, The Heads (Simon Price, Wayne Maskell, Hugo Morgan and Paul Allen) cut a timely swathe with their unkempt rock psychedelique. All music obsessives, their debut album, Relaxing With… was recorded at Foel studios (owned by Dave Anderson from Hawkwind), engineered by Corin Dingley and mastered by John Dent at LOUD. The original album contained 10 tracks of guitar driven, amp destroying rock, with cues taken straight from the US underground as well as Stooges, MC5, Mudhoney, Pussy Galore, early Monster Magnet but with a disitinctly British stamp, some of the drone and fuzz from Loop / Spacemen 3, some of the attitude of the Fall, Pink Fairies and Walking Seeds and overlaid with the spaced rock of early Hawkwind.
For this reissue, the album has been kept on disc one in its entirety and re-mastered by Shawn Joseph (who also mastered their second album ‘Everybody Knows We Got Nowhere’) and Simon Price, with the “bonus” disc featuring unreleased tracks (including Spliff Riff from 1991), long out of print singles, a selection of their Radcliffe / Radio 1 Rock Show session tracks as well as their first John Peel session (1995) in its entirety. The artwork has been expanded by longtime art collaborator Johnny O with Simon Price, to collate an appreciation of The Heads (penned by a former tour manager/ dogsbody), and dozens of fliers, unseen photos, clippings etc.
The band have, over the years, established themselves as Bristol’s finest purveyors of psychedelic noise; their garage spuzz, monster jams, riffs to infinity and white noise maelstrom has won them fans far and wide including the likes of Mudhoney, Jello Biafra, Frank Kozik, Billy Gould and Julian Cope earning them the title of ‘cult heroes’ or, in the words of the Sunday Times, a ‘National Treasure’….
